Every year Arrow’s personal and professional development coach, Michael Buckley, asks everyone to pick a “Word of the Year.” The goal is to look inward and consider what we each need more of and what might improve our lives. Sometimes we need more focus or clarity. Sometimes we need more compassion. Sometimes we just need more fun!
Picking a word for both me and my community is a commitment to doing work on yourself and the “we” and “us” work we want to do as a community.
Looking back on 2022, it was a year of growth, change, and celebration at Vitalia North Olmsted. Our community grew in both residents and employees. Our Executive Director Christie was promoted to Regional Operations Director and our Business Office Director Bridget was promoted to Assistant Executive Director. Our Senior Living Coordinator Meryl transitioned to the Business Office Director role and our Culinary Director Jacqui transitioned to Vitalia Solon, while our cook, Rocco, was promoted to Culinary Director.
Vitalia North Olmsted became the second senior living community in the entire country and first in Ohio to be Joint Commission accredited. With the help of many, our team worked hard to prepare for and achieve this accomplishment. Our community was also named Best Independent Living Community by the U.S. News and World Report for 2022-23. Once again, we earned the titles of “A Great Place to Live” and “A Great Place to Work.”
Now, looking forward to 2023, what Vitalia Active Adult Community – North Olmsted needs is to empower. We want to empower both our residents and employees by embracing their differences.
We plan to weave empowerment into the daily operations of the community by expressing appreciation of our staff achievements, both big and small with our Creative Follow Up recognition awards. Our community can empower both staff and residents by building trusting relationships where they feel comfortable to discuss any matter with our team.
As for myself, I have chosen the word present for 2023. Being new in the Assistant Executive Director role, I want to be visible to all the residents, staff, and department head team. I hope they feel that I actively listen to them and follow through.
What is YOUR WORD? I hope you will pick one too. What does your life need a little more of in 2023? What does “future you” thank you for working on now? Our words are meant to inspire us. If it is not inspiring, it’s not the right word.
And if you are reading this, please hold us accountable. When you visit Vitalia Active Adult Community – North Olmsted or come to town hall, ask us what our word of the year is and what have we done to support it.
Please look forward to the December 2023 blog where we tell you all the ways we lived in line with our word of the year and all the ways it helped improve our community.
