Chef Shares Sentiments

Bringing Passion to the Table

As Culinary Director at Vitalia Highland Heights, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and find fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it centers on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it counts.

I’ve always enjoyed both cooking and working with older adults. Combining the two felt like the perfect next step in my career. Becoming a Culinary Director gave me that opportunity to do meaningful work every day.

Team members in culinary uniforms smile together in the kitchen, standing proudly near a counter as they prepare fresh dishes for residents.

Fifteen years of experience as a cook, including nine in senior living, prepared me for this role with Arrow. I started out as a cook at my previous community and worked my way up. I especially enjoyed creating menus and planning special events inspired by resident suggestions. Their input made the dining experience feel more personal and engaging.

Creating Connection Through Food

What I enjoy most about senior living is getting to know the residents. I love hearing their stories, learning their preferences, and tailoring meals to match their tastes. Events like happy hour, candlelight dinners, and Sunday brunch give us new ways to surprise and delight them.

Each morning, I start my day by greeting residents at breakfast. Then I check in on both kitchens to make sure the teams have what they need to succeed. That early support helps everyone start the day on the right foot.

For anyone considering a culinary career in senior living, I’d say it’s a lot of work—but it’s incredibly rewarding. You’re not just cooking. You’re making a difference.

Culinary team member enjoys time with three senior residents, sharing laughter and camaraderie in the dining area after a community meal.

To me, success means the day ends with happy residents, a happy team, and the knowledge that we did our best.

At day’s end, I take the greatest pride in knowing I’ve contributed something meaningful—whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt conversation, or a comforting moment. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
