Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful and intentional choice to guide my focus personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at Vitalia Highland Heights in Highland Heights, Ohio, the start of a new year offers a fresh opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead. My word serves as an anchor, influencing how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Looking back, I am continually amazed at how profoundly this simple practice shapes the course of a year.
For 2024, the word forward perfectly captured the season we were in as a community. The year was defined by transition, growth, and determination. From the final months of pre-sales to the grand opening of our community, forward-thinking became the driving force behind every decision.
Our team navigated changes, overcame challenges, and embraced new opportunities with purpose and resilience. This mindset strengthened relationships, propelled us through obstacles, and fueled our progress. Forward was not just a word—it was a compass, keeping us focused on growth and advancement throughout the year.
The experiences of 2024 left a lasting impact. The lessons we learned—adaptability, perseverance, and the importance of vision—will guide us as we move into 2025. Building on the momentum we created, I have chosen my Word of the Year for 2025: opportunity.
Opportunity represents a commitment to recognizing and seizing the possibilities ahead for our team, residents, and the entire community. It reflects a mindset of curiosity, openness, and action. As I prepare for the year ahead, I’m motivated by the opportunity to strengthen relationships, drive innovation, and create an environment where residents and team members thrive.
This word will guide me in leadership, influence decision-making, and inspire personal growth. Choosing opportunity means not only seeking out possibilities but also embracing the journey with intentionality and purpose.
